Big Faith....it's a thing. But is it your thing?

Big Faith? But I do not have time to do EVERYTHING God tells me to….says you!

Now, let me get started with I am sooooo not perfect. Sometimes I have to sniff in the boys bathroom to find that smell, or step over a vacuum cleaner and dirty laundry and 45 my little ponies to get to my bed because I am too exhausted to yell at anyone to pick them up. Sometimes I watch just one extra episode of House Hunters while eating Gardetto's and Ice cream, to dream of my future homeowner days.

BUT…. I am obedient. Everything God tells me to do, I just do it.  I’ll make this quick and again, I’m not better than anyone.. I am just obedient because being otherwise has not gone well for me.

My small group Leadership roles, Divorce Care Leadership, Remedy Leadership, Reaching out into the community and my friends to serve, Teaching my kids about Jesus and his love by living God’s word, Swim Lessons where I talk about God, Helping people move, Smiling at everyone I meet, Loving on people I encounter, Apologizing when I am wrong, Forgiving others… I never had time for this before ands I would have looked at you like a big ol’ nutball if you had suggested I could ever do any let alone all of this with my “Schedule”.

I had to give things up to make that happen and I do not miss a single one. I am happier than I have ever been.

We are all busy. My busy is different from other’s busy but it does not change that we are all busy. It is our number one excuse for lack of obedience. See if any of these things are things you would do if you just had time…..

That small group you should start/join
That soup kitchen you would love to serve in.
That friend you should call to check in with
That elderly neighbor that really needs their lawn mowed
That job God is calling you to take
That man/woman you feel drawn to speak with and get to know.
That local or international Mission trip you feel called to attend
That pig you are taking to market and should give away….. (wait, that one is probably just my Pastor)

But, you do not have time...right? I know I used to think so.
Then I discovered if God is calling me to do it, and I chose to have faith in him he will make time. I feel the same amount of “Busy” I did last July but my days/nights are just filled with different things. They are filled with the things God wants my family and me to be doing. They are filled with better things

So to be obedient we HAVE to ask God what he wants us to do and then go with the flow. Maybe the kids might need to cut back on one of the 15 extra curricular activities they are in, maybe your netflix time gets a little shorter, maybe you set a particular laundry day and your family just has to deal with it, maybe we need to pray for a kick-butt/name taking/ super fun cheap sitter for mission trips.

Because I can almost guarantee you one thing…. If you do not have time to do what God is calling you to do, chances are you did not ask for God’s opinion on the things that are taking up his time.

Oh and if there is one thing God thinks is hilarious…. It is YOUR rock solid plans. We make plans to save time right? To be sure we meet OUR deadline?
Trust me, the slowest path to anywhere is the path that does not involve God’s counsel. I can atest to this from 26 years of experience...I was 10 then, my plans were pretty flexable before that , ya know? . You see I am not powerful enough to mess up God’s plans but I can certainly change the route I have to take to get there.

So tell me? What can you change? How can you find time to always say Yes to God?
You may not like the answers right away but I can tell you, you will feel amazing when you do.

What will you say “YES God, I’m on it” about TODAY?????
